Collaboration to establish a collection network for waste cooking oil in the Chugoku and Shikoku area
Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd. and Revo International Corporation (hereafter "Revo International") announced on November 6 an agreement to collaborate in the construction of a collection network for waste cooking oil in the Chugoku-Shikoku area by utilizing the Cosmo Oil Sakaide Distribution Base in Sakaide, Kagawa Prefecture as a distribution base for waste cooking oil. Cosmo Oil Sakaide Logistics Base in Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture, will be used as a distribution base for waste edible oil.
Cosmo Oil established SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY, a joint venture with Revo International and JGC Holdings Corporation on November 8, 2022, for the first large-scale production of domestically produced SAF*1 from waste cooking oil in Japan.
100% aims to supply approximately 30,000 kiloliters of SAF made from waste cooking oil annually in Japan, and as part of this effort, we have recently agreed that Revo International will utilize a part of the facilities at the Sakaide Distribution Base as a primary base for collecting waste cooking oil. This initiative is expected to enable an increase of about 400 kiloliters per year in the amount of waste cooking oil to be picked up as a collection base for waste cooking oil mainly in the Chugoku-Shikoku area.
SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY LLC is currently in discussions with waste edible oil producers nationwide to start operation of SAF production equipment*2 by the end of FY2024.
This initiative will promote the take-back of waste cooking oil and improve the efficiency of its transportation, which will in turn contribute to addressing the "2024 problem" of reforming work styles in the logistics industry.
MOL and Revo International will continue to contribute to the future de-carbonization of the aviation sector through the domestic SAF business.
*1: SAF stands for Sustainable Aviation Fuel.
