Aeon Retail x JAL x KDDI Smart Drone collaborates to create next-generation stores through the use of drones!

Aeon Retail, Japan Airlines, and KDDI SmartDrone have signed a tripartite agreement to study social implementation using drones in the retail domain!
This study will begin with a store scheduled to open in 2025 in Shimosuwa-machi, Suwa-gun, Nagano Prefecture, and will be expanded to other areas as well.

Consider social implementation of drone logistics, such as regional delivery and transportation in times of disaster.

Against the backdrop of a declining population due to the falling birthrate and aging population, as well as the logistics 2024 problem, sustainable store operations in the region require a different approach than in the past, such as delivery through new channels.

To address these issues, we will utilize drones and digital technology to create a new last mile, optimize and streamline the supply chain from product procurement to delivery to consumers, and create a new shopping experience.

Local stores also play a role in providing evacuation shelters and transporting supplies to disaster-stricken areas as a base for disaster response.

In addition, as people gather and mingle in the town's lifestyle hub, we will promote the creation of next-generation stores and strengthen community ties while fostering expectations and understanding of a society in which drones play an active role through drone experience events and other activities.

Role in this study

In this study, AEON Retail will uncover the relevant regional needs, plan solutions to meet those needs, and plan an overall strategy for OMO (Online Merges with Offline Note 1) using drones and digital technology, in collaboration with the regional government and related businesses. We will plan the overall strategy for OMO (Online Merges with Offline Note 1) using drones and digital technology while collaborating with local governments and related businesses.

JAL and KDDI SmartDrone will jointly conduct surveys related to drone operations, coordinate with relevant government agencies, and provide on-site operational support by leveraging their drone operation experience in various fields and technologies such as operation management systems that enable remote control and autonomous flight. We aim to realize efficient operations based on the premise of ensuring safety.
