FY2023 Commercialization Support Project for Research and Development Support Project for Growing SMEs (Open Innovation and Technology Development Promotion Project)
<Background and Objectives
Based on the "Guidelines for the Advancement of Specific Core Manufacturing Technologies and Services of Small and Medium Enterprises," the Hokkaido Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI-Hokkaido) has been supporting R&D and prototype development related to core manufacturing technologies and advanced services that utilize advanced technologies such as IoT and AI*, in order to enhance the technology and services of SMEs and start-up companies. Through the advancement of technology and services of SMEs and start-up companies, we have been working to strengthen Japan's international competitiveness through innovation.
On the other hand, with the progress of digitization and carbon neutrality, and the drastic changes in industrial structure and value in Japan and abroad, it is not easy for small, medium, and start-up companies to engage in R&D that meets market needs, and to develop business and sales channels thereafter. There were many cases where the commercialization of research results did not proceed as planned.
In order to create a series of innovations from technology development to social implementation and solutions to social issues, it is essential for small and medium-sized companies and start-ups to grow by utilizing domestic and foreign resources such as funds, human resources, and equipment. Therefore, this project aims to promote the commercialization of R&D results of small and medium-sized companies and start-up companies and the formation of new projects such as Go-Tech projects by utilizing the resources of large and medium-sized companies, AIST, public research institutes, and other organizations. Business matching between large/medium-sized companies and small/start-up companies with innovative technologies and new products/services will be conducted to promote the commercialization of R&D results of go-tomarket businesses. In addition to major companies and SMEs, we will also hold exchange events where key personnel from the support side will gather to build face-to-face relationships and create opportunities for commercialization.
Through the above efforts, we aim to promote open innovation initiatives in the province, promote the commercialization of Go-Tech projects and other R&D results, and formulate new projects.
*Supported by the "Strategic Fundamental Technology Advancement Support Program" until FY 2003, the program was renamed the "Growth-oriented R&D Support Program for Small and Medium Enterprises (Go-Tech Program)" in FY 2022.
