Trademark Know-How|How to name a product to increase sales

なぜ、商品・サービスにネーミングが必要なのでしょうか?必要である理由は大きく2つあります。「見込み客が他社のサービス・商品と見分けるため」「事業者が見込み客へサービス・商品の内容を伝えるため」。つまり、ネーミングは伝達手段であり、商標となるのです。見込み客から選ばれることは、売り上げに繋がります。なので、ネーミングというものは非常に大切なものになってきます。

今更聞けない「商標」とはどういうものか?

商品やサービスにつけたネーミング(名前)、ロゴマークをさします。他社の商品やサービスと自社の商品・サービスを見分けることができるものです。
・例1 商品「お茶」 商標「伊藤園」→○
・例2 商品「お茶」 商標「お茶」→×
・例3 商品「お茶」 商標「お〜いお茶」→○
商標権は、ネーミングやロゴマークと商品やサービスとを組み合わせたものです。

見込み客から見て、魅力的な「商標」とは

1つ目は「見込み客が得られる体験を表しているもの」です。商標が商品やサービスの内容や特徴を暗に表しているものが魅力のある商標と言えます。例えば、「価格.com」や「ウイルスバスター」など、一捻りした文字ったものや語呂に変化を加えたものが当てはまります。逆に、商品やサービスの内容をそのまま示すもの、「お茶」などの商品名だと「識別力なし」となります。

2つ目は「商品やサービスの効能がわかるもの」。覚えやすく、得られるものが明確だからです。
商標は自社のポジショニング。商標は時として、キャッチコピーよりも協力でSEO対策としても有効です。自社のポジショニングを確立するために以下のポイントおさえることをオススメします。

・見込み客(ターゲット)が誰なのか?
・見込み客がどんな体験を得られるのか
・他社の商品やサービスと比較してどんな特徴があるのか
・何が売り込み(強み)なのか

自社の商標はこれらを表す有効な手段です。ここをおさえておくことで、ピッチの質もあげることができますので、ぜひやってみてください。
