What is Morus?
It is an R&D-oriented venture company that supplies bio-materials from silkworms, which have supported Japan's economic development, and conducts research and development. The company was founded with the aim of solving global problems such as the "protein crisis" by supplying silkworms, which have a wealth of nutrients not found in other insects, as raw materials to multiple industries through breeding and mass production.
Silkworms are not only high in protein, but are also being studied for their useful components, which have not been confirmed in other insects. In addition, silkworms have been domesticated throughout the long history of mankind and are suitable for mass production because they do not run away, do not cannibalize each other, and have been studied for a long time among insects. It is an insect full of potential in the field of food that could also solve global health issues originating in Japan.

Background and Purpose of Fund Procurement
Silk and sericulture are key industries that have supported Japan's economic development, accounting for more than half of the country's total exports. With this historical background, Japan is now world-leading in sericultural technology and research techniques. On the other hand, it is a fact that the population of the industry itself is decreasing due to the aging of the industry.
Morus has teamed up with Shinshu University, one of Japan's leading silkworm research institutes, to develop silkworm raw material products and to commercialize research and development on high-speed silkworm breeding and mass production. The company has raised funds for the purpose of product development, expansion of the team structure, and acceleration of research and development.
What is Silkworm Raw Materials?
This is a new bio-based raw material that will utilize silkworms and provide for multiple industries, including food, pharmaceuticals, and feed.

Comments from Ryo Sato, CEO of Morus
We co-founded Morus with Professor Shiomi of Shinshu University with the aim of using silkworms, which once supported Japan's development and are still a world leader in research, to solve global-level problems such as global warming and protein shortages that are currently facing humanity.
The silkworm is an insect that has accumulated the wisdom of many brilliant Japanese researchers, led by Professor Shiomi, and is also an insect that played a major role in the modernization of Japan by Eiichi Shibusawa, a predecessor of my hometown.
We will use the funds from this investment to promote research and the commercialization of research results, and strive to become one of the first bio-startups from Nagano, Japan, that will change the world's common sense about raw materials.

ANRI General Partner Masahiro Sameshima
When I first met Mr. Sato, the representative of Morus, I was fascinated by his passionate eyes and the fanatical light behind his eyes that he wants to solve the world's food problems with silkworms, and I decided to invest in Morus. I am also excited about the possibility of reviving the traditional sericulture industry, in which Japanese elemental technologies have been accumulated, through the success of Morus. (Please note that the name of the company is Morus, not Mothra.)

Morus is a bio-startup company founded by an entrepreneur from our company. We have had continuous discussions with him since the idea stage at the end of last year, and we made the decision to invest in the company because we are convinced of the potential of this business. Insect startups are springing up all over the world, and the silkworm is an insect with unlimited potential to have an overwhelming impact from Japan to the rest of the world. We will continue to support them in their efforts to change the world together.
