J-Startup Impact" is newly established! Intensive public-private sector support for high potential impact startups

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has established the "J-Startup Impact" program, which provides intensive public-private sector support to high-potential impact startups with the aim of raising awareness of and fostering support for impact startups. 30 companies that are expected to serve as role models have been selected!

Overview of "J-Startup Impact" and Selection of Companies

Impact startups are companies that aim to solve social and environmental issues and realize new visions together with sustainable economic growth, and are beginning to attract attention as the embodiment of the Kishida administration's "new capitalism" concept.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been conducting the "J-Startup" program, which provides intensive support to startups, the bearers of innovation, through public-private partnerships. This year, we established the "J-Startup Impact" program, which provides intensive support for impact startups, and selected 30 companies that are expected to serve as role models.

In addition to support for J-Startups, including support for exhibiting at large-scale events in Japan and overseas, overseas local support, expansion of bidding opportunities, and matching with private companies, the selected companies will be promoted to use the expert consultation service for measuring and managing impact and obtaining global certification, etc., and will be supported in communicating and publicizing their activities both in Japan and overseas at various events, etc. In addition, we will promote the use of expert consultation services for measuring and managing impact, acquiring global certification, etc., and provide support for publicity and PR at events in Japan and overseas.

In selecting the recipients, we received applications from approximately 500 companies, which were evaluated based on the recommendations from private-sector experts. The establishment of methods and dissemination of know-how related to one of the evaluation items, "initiatives aimed at improving social impact (impact measurement and evaluation, system building, information disclosure, etc.)," is still in its early stages.

It is hoped that the selected companies will further promote their initiatives, and that the excellent initiatives of the selected companies will serve as a reference for other impact startups and have a ripple effect on the impact startup industry as a whole.
