The Keihanshin region, including Osaka, has been selected by the Cabinet Office as a "Global Hub City for a World-Class Startup Ecosystem," with the aim of creating an ecosystem in which startups can grow significantly.
As we work to build a more complete ecosystem in the life science, medical, and healthcare fields, which are also the theme of Expo 2010 Osaka-Kansai, we saw the potential for startup creation and growth in these fields in Osaka and Japan, and began working with MedTech Actuator, a specialized organization with a broad network in the Asia-Pacific region. According to CEO Buzz Palmer, the level of research in the medical and healthcare fields in Japan is very high and ideas are abundant. The "Origin Japan Program" will help Japanese research seeds and ideas grow into businesses that will have an international impact.

The "Origin Japan Program" is a program for entrepreneurs, researchers, and start-ups in the medical and healthcare fields, focusing on how to speedily commercialize their ideas with a view to global expansion.
Three companies will be selected from among those participating in the preliminary round of the 2-day intensive lecture and pitch competition in Osaka, and sent to Melbourne, Australia. In Melbourne, the companies will attend an intensive lecture and pitch competition together with local entrepreneurs and startups, visit local medical institutions, and have opportunities to interact with investors and large corporations. Qualifying companies will be able to travel to Melbourne, Australia, with travel expenses covered by JETRO.

Origin Japan Program (Intensive Lecture + Pitch Competition) Application Outline

This is a multinational networking program that encourages companies to consider global expansion from the pre-startup and early startup phases.

Intensive lectures in Osaka and preliminary round of the pitch competition.
Three selected companies travel to Australia.
