Kitakyushu City provides up to 2.5 million yen in subsidies! Kitakyushu City supports demonstration experiments of startups that take on the challenge of solving problems!

Kitakyushu City has begun accepting applications for the "Startup SDGs Innovation Trial Project," which provides a subsidy of up to 2.5 million yen to startup companies that conduct demonstration experiments in the city, as well as support for accompanying them through collaboration among industry, academia, government, and academia!
In addition to themes such as administrative issues set by the City of Kitakyushu, the City of Kitakyushu invites proposals for demonstration experiments for practical application of innovative technologies and ideas that will lead to solutions to the issues of the City of Kitakyushu.

Demonstration Support Program Application Details

Theme of Application
We are looking for demonstration projects to be conducted in Kitakyushu City that will help solve problems and improve the quality of life for citizens of Kitakyushu City.

List of themes
1) Removal of hazards from aging public facilities
(2) Inspection and management of road facilities DX
(iii) Optimization of electricity and gas consumption in air conditioning facilities
4) Removal of wild birds and animals and habitat survey
5) Upcycling of abandoned bamboo groves and activated carbon to be disposed of
⑥Solving unpleasant odors in public restroom (non-residential) spaces
(7) Free Theme

Support
Industry-academia-government-academia collaboration will provide support for expenses required for business model verification and prototype improvement (up to 2.5 million yen), coordination of demonstration fields, PR support, and advice from experts.

In addition, we will invite them to exchange meetings with local students and businesses, which we are conducting as part of our efforts to build local communities.

Subjects
Companies that have been in business for approximately 15 years or less and are oriented toward rapid growth through business models based on innovative technologies and ideas.

*Any company within or outside of Kitakyushu is welcome to apply, but if the company is located outside of the city, it must establish a base of operations in Kitakyushu City during the project period. (A co-working space contract is also acceptable.)

Deadline for submitting business plans: Wednesday, July 26, 2023 by 5:00 p.m. [prior consultation available].
Document review: Early August 2023 [about 10 applicants passed].
Subsidy application period: Monday, August 21, 2023
Presentation review: Thursday afternoon, August 24, 2023
Decision of adopted companies: End of August, 2023 (about 7 companies will be adopted)
Demonstration period: September 2023 - February 2024
Results briefing: March 2024

● Cooperation Initiatives
(1) Community Formation
To form a community, regular community events will be held jointly with several projects related to startup support in the city, creating opportunities for collaboration among adopted companies, students, related companies and institutions. In addition, a community manager familiar with the city will be appointed to support communication and utilization of the Kitakyushu ecosystem.

(2) Leveraging the Ecosystem
During the program period, the program will utilize Slack, Facebook, etc. to share information on available fields, facilities, local companies, experts, etc. among multiple projects related to startup support in the city, and to arrange for mutual utilization of resources among the projects.

(iii) Demo Day
At the end of the program, a large demonstration day will be held jointly with several businesses related to startup support in the city, and the results of the project will be publicized nationwide in cooperation with the media in various fields. A number of companies and related organizations in the city will be invited to the event, which will also include a talk session with splendid guests.
